Business Environment

Scenario 1.2 (for task2)

The business landscape is rapidly becoming more global. This is largely due to improvements in communications. Globalization is dramatically impacting on the way business is managed and transacted, even on local level.
A number of countries are competing to become key exporters of health services. In particular, the growing phenomenon of health tourism appeals to many developing countries where clinics servicing foreign clients flourish. An increasing number of countries offer attractive surgery, recuperation and rejuvenation holiday packages – from South Africa or Costa Rica to Thailand or India (World Bank, 2009).
Smart Regulation is a top priority for the UK Government. Well-designed legislation
helps businesses to operate effectively in the market in order to create jobs and growth in health services. Many people became aware of the influence of Europe on the NHS following the introduction of the European Working Time Directive (EWTD). As the NHS searched for a coordinated and managed response to the EWTD it became clear that the debate in Europe had moved from whether European Union (EU) rules applied to the NHS, to how they applied. For clinicians, managers and health policy analysts this was a new challenge. Both the momentum and reach of the EU has grown rapidly in the health sector, and the NHS needs to be alert to these issues; and be capable of responding coherently and at a strategic level (NHS Confederation, 2010).

Instructions
For tasks 2 you will need to write a report detailing the answers to each question. This should be in a report format and should show evidence of the research you have carried out. Make sure to clearly explain all of your answers and the rationale behind them. The clarity of your reasoning and logic, as well as the analyses that leads to the conclusion, is crucial. Your report will be more effective if you explicitly integrate the theoretical and practical concepts learned from your course. You must conduct additional research to find answers for these tasks.
Refer scenario 1.2 to answer your task 2.

Are political parties important to effective governance? Why?

topic: Are political parties important to effective governance? Why?

Length: 500-750 words (two to three double-spaced pages)

Instructions: The annotated bibliography is a library research assignment. This is the first step in writing a major research paper such as the one you will write for assignment three

Select no fewer than five and no more than seven academic, refereed scholarly works that broadly relate to the topic of their research essay. A refereed or peer reviewed publication is one that has been blind reviewedthat is, the reviewers do not know who wrote the proposed publication, and the author of the publication does not know who has reviewed their workby at least two qualified peer reviewers. Using most search engines is not an acceptable method of research. However, almost all library books and journal articles found in university databases have been peer reviewed and are, therefore, acceptable academic works on which to base your research. If you have any doubts about what has and has not been peer reviewed, contact your tutor.

Begin the assignment with a brief paragraph (three to five sentences) explaining your response to the question selected. Whatever question you choose to examine, clearly explain your position on the question in the first paragraph of the assignment. This is essentially a statement of thesis upon which you will build your research essay (Assignment 3). Note that this thesis statement must be fairly specific. For instance, if you selected question 2 on political parties, it is not sufficient to say that you are going to examine the role of political parties in governance. We ask you whether political are important to effective governance, and WHY. Accordingly, we want to see an answer to this question, not simply a restatement of the topic question. Then, provide a prcis, or summary, of each work cited. These summaries should be a single paragraph, consisting of 3 to 6 sentences or about 60 to 80 words in total. They should succinctly describe the works (a) thesis, (b) evidence that develops or proves the thesis, and (c) the relevance of the chosen article to the thesis of your own research essay. Your annotated bibliography must be submitted, marked, and returned prior to submitting your major research paper (assignment 3).

For the purposes of this assignment, a scholarly work consists of a peer reviewed book or an article published in a peer reviewed scholarly journal. Before preparing the annotated bibliography, consult the political science research and writing guide:

http://library.athabascau.ca/help/polisciguide.php

Pay special attention to the library tutorial on using Google Scholar:

http://library.athabascau.ca/help/tutorials/googlescholar/googlescholar.html

Google Scholar is a particular feature of the Google search engine. If you follow the instructions and configure Google Scholar for the Athabasca University Library, it will link directly to articles in the Universitys journal databases when you perform a search. If you use it properly in conjunction with our university databases, Google Scholar can save you considerable time. At no time should you use an Internet search engine other than Google Scholar for your assignments, unless your tutor gives you express consent to do so.

Trace PROGRESS in English History

Trace progress in English history, starting with Alfred and ending with Henry VIII. Use examples from at least 2 sources which have to be from books (Google books are good sources as well). Some of the good examples are the rise of the Common Law out of the royal courts brought over to England by Henry II and the origin of Parliament by election of knights, burgesses, and citizens to the parliamentum of barons, bishops, royal officers in the time of Edward I. There are also nice sections at the beginning of several chapters about the developing society of the English.

But in every sources (English history books) there are more examples. Feudalism brought order and peace to the country, preparing the way for national unity. The Crusades enlarged the mentality of medieval Europe. Magna Carta was the first great step toward liberty under law. The hearing of petitions for a redress of grievances in the earliest Parliaments began the process of legislation and to the eventual contest between king and parliament over the sovereignty of the state. Even defeats like the failure to unite England with Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, between John’s loss of Normandy and Edward III’s attack on France at the start of the Hundred Years’ War, contained the germs of future progress, as in the use of the Welsh long-bow and Wales’ involvement in the Wars of the Roses, which put a Welsh Tudor lord on the English throne as Henry VII. The Scottish people’s defeat of the English at Bannockburn, when even their barons supported Edward, reflected the rise of “democratic patriotism,” which would replace feudalism. Irish culture survived.

Some school of historians’ perspective is progressive. The authors do not idealize the past — the barons at Runnymead were not thinking of universal rights — nor do they evade setbacks like the reign of Steven or Henry VI. But despite retrograde movements, they see English history as progressive. Write a paper showing that progress.
