Your tasks:
Your report should draw on relevant academic literature, industry publications, internet sources, and where relevant, your own observations and experience, including interviews, visits, etc.
1. Identify a New Zealand industry or organization that will be the subject of your report. The industry that you choose could include dairy farming, fishing, mining, forestry, oil and gas, power generation, retailing, services, manufacturing, etc.
Alternatively, you may select a particular New Zealand organization. The organization could be a business, a local council, or an advocacy organization. Be sure that there is sufficient evidence available to complete the report tasks.
2. Identify the environmental issue or issues that will be the focus of your report. The issue should be of relevance to your industry or organization. The issue may be negative, for example, pollution, or positive, for example, substitution for fossil fuels.
3. Identify the effects of the environmental issue on the industry or organization and vice versa.
4. Identify the particular existing or proposed environmental management approach, technique, or tool that will be the focus of your report. It should be of relevance to your industry or organization. Examples could include: the environmental management system of the organization, emissions trading scheme, environmental certification programme, etc.
5. Identify the economic and/or environmental value, the costs, and the limitations of the existing or proposed environmental management approach, technique, or tool.
6. Develop conclusions from your analysis and propose recommendations for the industry or organization.
7. Present your report in the inductive report format with the following required sections: Introduction; Discussion; Conclusions and Recommendations, and Reference List as described below in the report grading sheet.
