The short happy life of Francis Macomber

Read Ernest Hemingway’s short story, The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber. The college library possesses a copy of the story. There is also a link (under “Links”) in D2L. After reading the story, you must choose one of the three characters and analyze that character in context of the story. You must explain the following: (i) At least two aspects of the character’s personality. (ii) Why the character behaves the way he/she does. (iii) At least one way in which the character impacts the lives of the two other characters in the story. To conclude, you must clearly state whether the character was realistically portrayed. You must cite a minimum of 5 peer-reviewed journal articles. Each article must have a different author and each article must come from a different journal. All of the articles should have a publication date of 1983 or later. At least one of the articles must disagree with your own interpretation of the character that you have chosen to analyze. After stating how and why the writer disagrees with you, explain why that person is wrong and you are right. You must include at least one in-text citation from each of the 5 articles. You may cite more than 5 journals. You may also include multimedia citations (photographs, video, music, etc). However, those citation must be in addition to the 5 journals. In total, your citations must amount to at least 10% of your essay but no more than 25%. So, for instance, if you write a 2,500 word essay, all of your citations, in total, should add up to at least 250 words but no more than 625 words. Each citation should be at least one complete sentence. Please do not cite entire paragraphs, pages, or poems. You will submit your essay electronically, as a Word document, in MLA format. The essay must contain a cover page and a Works Cited page. The essay must be 1,500 words to 2,500 words in length. The word-count will not include the words on the cover-page and the Works Cited page. All citations must be clickable. I must be able to read every page of every article if I so desire. If you cite an article and I click on the link and I cannot find it on the Web, I will send back your essay to you and request you to rewrite your essay using a source that I can read. However, for me to do this, I must receive your essay at least one week before the deadline. Otherwise, you will simply lose points for including a broken link.
