The Florida legislature wants to consider some legislation or other effort to improve the quality of elementary education in Florida. The legislature contacted the Florida Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) to conduct a policy analysis as a means of providing recommendations regarding the steps that the legislature can take to improve the elementary education system in Florida.Steps to implement a policy analysis: 1. How would you define, specify the problem of children in elementary school are not receiving a good education? What does that mean? What might the possible causes of this situation? (Hint: is it bad teachers, students not prepared for school, lack of technology, lack of facilities, overcrowding, or lack of technology…etc.)

3. What alternatives are there for improving the quality of elementary education? Alternatives should relate to the different ways that the problem has been specified. As, was discussed in the lecture, be expansive and creative in identifying policy alternatives. Identify three different alternatives. If possible, try to identify some approaches that have different methods of improving quality–i.e. use the public/private approaches to policy delivery we discussed in Lesson 2.
4.
