The essay should examine how Shakespeare uses forms, structure and language to create and shape meanings. It should also combine succinct, pertinent, textual reference with precise, critical comment; quotations should also be used to substantiate a point about how a particular word or phrase is used to create certain effects. The essay will be reviewed by an Exam Board who expects to see perceptive and convincing response which shows a clear critical understanding of the text, and integrates much well-selected reference to the text. The essay should have an Introduction paragraph containing roughly 100 words followed by 4 paragraphs of analysis and a Conclusion paragraph summarizing 2-3 key points, containing less than 100 words.
