WHY DID SCOTLAND VOTE TO REMAIN IN THE EU & WALES VOTED TO LEAVE?

A short quantitative or qualitative analysis (around 1400 words) should be produced, which will analyse different variables to explain the puzzle of 2016 Brexit Referendum:
Analysis should establish direct causal link, correlation or any direct effect of a variables to the Referendum outcomes in Scotland and Wales, and more importantly explain WHY this two similar Celtic and devolved nations voted so differently in 2016 Referendum. Data for targeted variables can be retrieved from any of these datasets: the British Election Study (BES), 2016 British Understanding Society survey or the British Social Attitudes (BSA) and/or the NatCen Panel pre- and post-referendum surveys or review of public debates around Brexit in Wales and Scotland, content analysis, political parties manifestos analysis, nationalism in these two countries, etc. Examples of variables could be both aggregate or individual level ones like GDP per capita, age, qualifications (level of expertise), education level, etc. Any one or two valid research method (either quant or qualitative) and at least 10 variables (both dependant and independent) would be acceptable.
