What is the venue or social context in which this identity is formed, modified, or affirmed?

The term-length study should enable you to look at an ongoing set of practices or meaning systems in an organized venue of interaction of your choice. Your study site should offer a look at the influence of the larger social world on those practices and meaning systems, and permit you to explore the sociologically significant effects of those practices and belief systems on the thinking, identities, and behaviors of persons involved in interactions in your study venue. Effects of practices and meaning systems should be shown in the sociologically significant personal identities that are associated with the social venue. A. The first part is your own review or evaluation of one sample student paper from previous semesters on the influence of a social context on the formation of an identity. Find these sample papers at bcourses under FILES. Read one carefully and address the following issues: i. Provide a brief statement of the thesis claim in the paper covering the following points: What is the identity or distinctive form of thinking and behavior under study? What is sociologically consequential about that identity? (See below for a discussion of sociological significance!) Restate the writers thesis claim, in your own words, on how the venue or social context has affected persons acquiring this identity? ii. How does this paper succeed in developing and supporting its thesis with evidence and published scholarship found in the syllabus. Mention a total of three observations either about the venue and its influence or features of the identity that were subject to influence that impressed you as a reader. iii. Identify three weaknesses, limitations, or areas for improvement in this paper. Note the nature of these flaws: — a) related to the presentation of the analysis in the paper (paper-writing issues), b) related to the conception of the task and data gathering (design and methodology), c) related to the appropriateness or adequacy of the evidence provided in support of the thesis claim.
