All four kinds of criteria of personal identity (dualist substance, dualist continuity, materialist substance, materialist continuity) have problems. However, some of the accounts face more severe problems than others. For example, any account that entails contradictions is perhaps irreparable while an account that just leaves some data unexplained can be salvaged. This is where you come in: Take your favorite account of personal identity and try to answer one of the objections to it that I raised in the video lectures. For example, if you really liked the materialist substance account, try to answer at least one of the objections I raised. This will take some thought, but many worthwhile endeavors do take thought and planning.
