Students must analyze a current Internet news article and the corresponding online comments from a sociological perspective. The news article can come from online news, magazines, newspapers, etc. as long as it is a reputable source. The article itself does not necessarily need to report on issues of race or ethnicity, but take note of commenters responses as race/ethnicity is often brought into the discussion even if it is not the focus of the news event. Begin by briefly summarizing the news event as well as any notable comments in no more than 2 paragraphs. Then analyze the message of the news article in addition to the comments being made. Be sure to apply at least 5 key concepts from the textbook (i.e. any chapter we have covered thus far) by first defining them and then using examples from the article and/or comments to illustrate the concept.
