Looking into the actual chain that includes the beings that which inabit both this world and the next, there is a descandence from God to the pebbles that shape and form our Earth. Not much really to “disagree” despite the idea that the beings in this chain are in a heirarchal order and whether your belief lies within the external beings such as Angels and Demons, but it is interesting that the names “minerals” and that there is a “classification” of this heirarchy and that there is a subdivision, all signs and ways in which Science, both then and now, have organized their studies. At length, this chain seems more for the religious being to look at their surroundings with a view point of importance, while also placing humans in the centre of physical and spiritual beings, but even this attempt at classification is scientific, which brings to question that, if there was a time period, a moment where logicians and higher level thinking individuals (i.e Aristotle, Plato, Plotinus, and Proclus) in which logical thinking molded itself into spiritual and, through personal experience and understanding, more of a faith based vision of life, then is there such possibility for it to be molded again. Now-a-days there is a break of logic and religion (I’m avoiding using the word science for the fact that this Chain isn’t scientifict with fact but logical and organized that is more scientific than religious), and considering the time period where Scientific Breakthrough brought humanity out the dark and into the “light”, debunking a lot of the mysteries that religion had held in its grasp, which allowed power over those who followed their faith blindly, this break is understood. But if one were to think more “logically” in how they interpreted and interacted which included the spirital qualities of their faith (and I mean the more positive points such as kindness, brotherhood, equality, finding something beyond one’s selfish reason and want), I wonder if society would be at the point where it has evolved into the civilized society they are fooled to call themselves now.
Another point I want to make, since I have discussed this Chain of Being in a literature class of mine, is the idea that Humanity, since being caught between the physical and the spiritual, are the creatures with no nature, in which they are free to create their own, be their own nature of whichever they choose.This melding of physical and spiritual, of what the eye sees versus what the mind and heart develop and “fee”, for lack of better termonology, may somewhat be compared to that of what I have brought up before, of the possibility for two opposing characteristics of things, such as physical and spiritual, to co-exist and develop in its own way and time, a possibility that so many look over as either impossible, or one is above the other in importance. I hope I have made myself clear, for I tend to ramble more than discuss at times.
