Professional Music Training EARLY CHILDHOOD ENGAGEMENT IN MUSIC PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: This section examines my early childhoods engagement with music. My earliest memory of music engagement came from my parents who taught me Body Percussion at home. This was done using movement of feet tapping and hand clapping to make the beat on different areas of the body to create sound effects. The familys singing and storytelling sessions had a positive psychological effect on my young life which stimulated my confidence over a period of time. Singer/Songwriter This started with my love for poetry, where I would translate my poems into songs by adding a melody and repetition to the lyrics. My mother was a singer and studio musician and my father was an Actor; being their only child, I was privileged to participate in many musicals and theatrical shows with them. My childhood had revolved around the entertainment industry; and I grew up developing a keen interest in Music Performance. The acquisition of my musical skills developed from invested time, motivation and effort in learning octaves and scales which lead me to the following creative areas: 1. Joined a local youth choir 2. Studied Sound Engineering at college 3. Pursue further musical knowledge in Music Performance at university 4. Live performances What are the challenges of studying this topic? Writing a personal account of the acquisition of my personal musical skills was the only challenge I encountered from studying this topic. I felt vulnerable and disappointed in myself for not being musically successful as I should be; I realised that I have all the tools required, however I lack discipline.
