The purpose of this study was to (a) fill this gap in the literature by examining American parents and Chinese-American parents perspectives of young childrens social emotional competences and (b) examine whether Chinese-American parents and non-Chinese American parents rating were significantly different on SCRF measures of social emotional competence for their children. A survey research method was used for data collection. Participants for this study were 80 parents, consisting of 40 Chinese-American parents, and 40 White/Caucasian parents. They have children aged from 3 to 5 years enrolled in a bilingual preschool center. For each child, each parent completed an SCRF rating scale.
