Employment Law Training Program

Course Project Overview
Develop a training program to help new managers learn the fundamentals of employment law and their role in implementing the policies and practices that maintain legal compliance in the workplace. Components of the project are assigned in each module, contributing to the comprehensive final product by the end of the course.
Training Objectives
Develop 5-7 training objectives for the program. What should managers know and be able to do when they have completed the training program?
Program Outline
Develop a 1-page outline of the content you plan to include in the training program. What major topics and subtopics will be covered? What are the most important things managers will need to know about their role in employment law compliance? Include ideas about the kinds of training methods best suited for delivering the content and achieving the learning objectives.
•    Informational methods: one-way communication to convey important factual information (i.e. lectures and audiovisual media).
•    Experiential methods: interactive methods to give trainees opportunity to apply knowledge, practice skills, and demonstrate behaviors (i.e. e-learning, simulations, case study analysis, and role play).
Annotated Bibliography
Write an annotated bibliography to gather descriptive information about the sources you will use to develop your training program; use at least five credible, scholarly resources besides the text. Once complete, the annotated bibliography will also serve as a reference list for trainees, a takeaway new managers can use on the job when confronted with employment law issues and the need to consult specific resources for further information.
In addition to the bibliographical information about the source that would typically appear in a works cited list, include a concise paragraph or two to briefly summarize the content of the source and to describe how it is relevant to the training or how it will be useful to managers beyond the training.
Here is an example of an annotated bibliography entry for the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL):
Training Content, Part 1
Expanding on the outline created in Module 2, develop the content for the first half of the training program as it will be presented to trainees. In the outline, you identified the most important things managers will need to know about employment law. In this part of the project, you will explain those things in greater detail so that new managers can better understand their role in human resource practice and workplace compliance with employment laws.
This component of the project will likely take the form of a Power Point presentation, although other delivery methods may be considered. Whatever medium is used, it should allow for a sufficient amount of detail about each subtopic and key point. For example, the slides in a Power Point presentation might contain concise bullet points, while elaboration of those key points is provided in the “notes” section below each slide (in normal view, but not visible in slideshow mode). Alternatively, audio recordings can be added to the presentation so that trainees may view it in slideshow mode and hear the trainer elaborate on the key points in each slide. Be sure to cite sources and provide references for trainees to seek further information.

Global now

Surf the global flow of information for news. Consider what’s happening (or not happening) that plays out across some, or a full range of scales – personal, local, urban, regional, national, or transnational, and that can be seen through the lens of design.

This week you will consider the various news sources that are the primary (or perhaps secondary) platforms for the circulation of ideas and information today and locate an issue, event, story, product, design, exhibition, etc. that relates to the topics explored by the readings(I will upload the reading by PDF) of the same week. You will provide an abstract from the original source, and write a brief text (up to 250 words) explaining the relationship, and situating the issue within the larger frame of design.

You are asked to consider the broader meanings of design that go beyond the field of visuality and the creative disciplines – design as problem solving, as a conscious intervention attempting to evaluate and change an existing situation, as a grass-roots or top-down approach, as a way of framing issues, as politics, as a way of communicating messages and agendas etc; and thus, explore design as a constantly shifting collective understanding and vision shaped by global and local factors. For example: while to many it is obvious how an exhibition is about design, it is perhaps more interesting to explore the design aspects of a political campaign: from its visual identity (colors, graphic design, clothing, media presence etc) to more subtle matters like choice of words and themes, speech, media and public presence, issues addressed etc.

In short, you are free and encouraged to report about anything that is current and that interests you, and to critically examine its relationship to design, and to the larger issues at stake.

Record that event in the following template:

Headline:

Date:

Source:

the issue:

Abstract (no more than 150 words) / photograph / diagram (depending on the nature of the source – print, video, photo, etc):

How it related to the reading(150 words):

How it related to design  (up to 250 words) :

Human Services

Section 1
So many misconceptions about HIV and AIDS exist despite information being readily available online, through various media outlets, and health care providers. Prepare a one page paper that addresses the following:

Briefly describe the differences between HIV and AIDS.
Include at least two myths about the contraction of these illnesses and then correct those myths with facts.
Identify a local community resource that offers help and support for persons infected with HIV. Discuss the services this agency provides. If you cannot find a local agency, you may identify a national organization.
Section 2
Let’s face it, drugs are everywhere. Illegal and prescription drugs are readily available for those looking to cope with various afflictions. Unfortunately, many individuals use drugs illegally; in addition, drugs approved by the FDA are abused. Whatever the source, strong addictions develop from inappropriate use. Select a drug that you’ve heard about or learned about in this course. Once you’ve selected this drug answer all of the following questions in one page paper:

What is the prevalence of this drug’s usage? (For example, how many use, who uses, demographics, and so on. Is this drug injected, smoked, inhaled, or ingested? Give details.
What are the physical signs and symptoms associated with this drug (for example, usage, and withdrawal)?
What is the typical abuse pattern or cycle associated with this drug?
Describe the typical rehabilitation for this drug. Does it involve detoxification? Explain.
What is the most recommended and/or most successful intervention model or approach used to treat individuals addicted to this substance? Include information about relapse.
