The purpose of this assignment is to develop a scholarly, well-organized, policy brief paper (2-3 pages including references) in which you analyze a health policy issue that has relevance to advanced nursing practice. Topics selected should have personal and professional interest for you and reflect your selected role (i.e., FNP, ACNP, AGNP, Psych NP, NE, etc.). Remember to avoid plagiarism. Your brief should introduce an issue related to a local, state or federal health care policy, describe what the relevant policy choices are, and then argue why one of those choices is superior to the others. Your brief should make use of published articles in nursing, healthcare, and law journals, as well as government reports, other policy briefs, or news articles. However, since the goal of your brief is to inform and influence policy decisions, it is very important that your paper is understandable to a broad audience. The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate your ability to critically appraise a healthcare policy that shapes health care financing or regulation of care delivery from the perspective of the consumer, healthcare provider, and other stakeholders. You are to select 4 to 5 studies to provide the background for your analysis. This policy is expected to be the foundation for the meeting with legislator assignment you are doing in this course.
