Write a 2 – 3 page paper (excluding cover and reference pages) differentiating criminal behavior using the various theories of crime.

Identify how each of the following theories attempts to explain the existence of criminal behavior. Students should focus on the following theoretical areas:

•Sociological
•Biological
•Psychological
•Social-Psychological
For each of the above theoretical areas, students should:

•Provide a brief historical summary of the development of the theoretical area of focus.
•Explain the basis of each theory (Examples may be that people commit crimes based on neurological malfunctions in the brain, because of peer pressure, due to Pavlov’s concept of conditioning, etc.). Essentially, explain what concepts each theory uses to explain criminal behavior. Be sure to provide examples that support your explanations.
•Provide an academic and/or operational example of each theory in practice (Example: The Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory or MMPI as an example of a psychologically-based theory in practice)
•Explain how the theoretical areas listed above may be interrelated by identifying similarities in creator, school of thought, philosophical basis, or other specific trait.

Subject:         Becoming a Great Business Leader

As a well-established and well-respected local business person, I have been asked by the _____________to prepare a seminar on the topic of how to become a great business leader. I will be giving inspiring and motivating advices and as well as some aspects of what a great leader should possess: self discipline, willingness to learn, and passion.

SELF DISCIPLINE

Self-discipline is the key to success. It forces yourself to do things others don’t like to do, going the extra mile. In order to become a successful business person, it is true that you cannot get anywhere without creativity and vision. But something even more important than that to the success of a business is self discipline. Not many could survive without it in today’s business environment. Whenever you are working for your own business, you have the discipline to spend many to work on the least fun parts of running the business (e.g. planning, financing, and bookkeeping). After all, if you want to be your boss, you have to sacrifice your fun time to do something that others won’t do. When you’re the boss, there’s no one there to keep you at work, and there is no one else to force you to do the extra work. There will not be any short-term consequences. But in the long run, you will have to pay the price for skipping work  just to give yourself some time off to do something fun. Some business owners might think that ‘just this once’ won’t hurt, and later when ‘just this once’ becomes a daily occurrence, the business is unlikely going to be successful.

WILLINGNESS TO LEARN

You do not have to hold a secondary education diploma in order to be successful in your business. In fact, many successful business persons without a secondary education made themselves millionaires. They have become what they are today, because they are willing to learn. In order to be successful, you will always have questions to ask. You will have to keep yourself interested and always accept new ideas and knowledge. In today’s fast paced business environment, your original business idea will always to be constantly changing, given rapid changes in technologies and ways of doing business. Every little detail or information brings you closer to your goals. Willingness to learn is very crucial in today’s business. As a business person, you have to realize the differences between you and your competitors.  Learn from your competitor’s strengths and success, and learn from your own weaknesses and mistakes. To learn means you will need to change the wrong ways you are doing in your own business and doing what your competitors are doing best. Don’t be afraid of failure, fail fast so you will know it’s the wrong way of doing your business. Learn from your mistakes, move on, and make changes until you get it right. “Ford is today known for his innovative assembly line and American-made cars, he wasn’t an instant success. In fact, his early businesses failed and left him broke five times before he founded the successful Ford Motor Company.”( http://www.hfmgv.org/exhibits/hf/)

BE PASSIONATE

Be passionate with what you do. Choose something that sparks your creativity, you enjoy to talk about and puts a smile on your face. Steve Jobs once said “People with passion can change the world for the better.” He’d rather get a job as a busboy until he figured out what he was really passionate about, and passion meant everything to him. (http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/220515) You cannot simply be successful if you are not passionate about doing what you do. Success might be easy once you have found out that you love what you do, because it usually motivates us to work hard to achieve our goals about things we love.  Your overall work performance will be maximized and only if you are doing something you enjoy doing and are passionate about. If you are just passionate enough, you won’t mind the fact that you spend more than 8 or 9 hours each day to work overtime, again, it’s simply because you truly love what you do.

CONCLUSION

Having a great vision and being creative are important features a great business should possess, but what’s more important for a successful business leader to have is the combination of self discipline, willingness to learn, and passion. Everyone must have something they are passionate about, just keep doing what you love and you will become successful and get the best result from it. Make sure to always keep learning and accepting new ideas and make appropriate changes accordingly. More importantly, you should always keep in mind to always work hard towards your goal. Thank you very much for allowing me this great  opportunity to present the seminar . Please feel free to contact me at anytime if further information is needed. My contact number is 613-613-6133.
