Write a research paper on ther artifact of my choice from the 1960s. The artifact I chose is the song The Times They Are a-Changin’ by bob dylan.
Your job is to describe it and interpret its historical meaning. The description should be about one page and the analysis about two to three pages and drawn from at least three peer-reviewed scholarly sources amounting to at least 50 pages of text.
THE RESOURCES MUST INCLUDE:
Dunlap, James. (2006). Through the Eyes of Tom Joad: Patterns of American Idealism, Bob Dylan, and the Folk Protest Movement. Popular Music & Society. 29(5), 549- 573.
AND
Galenson, David w. (2009). From “White Christmas” to Sgt. Pepper: The Conceptual Revolution in Popular Music. . Historical Methods. , 42(1), 17-34.
WRITING INSTRUCTIONS:
You should present a basic description of your selected artifact, giving as much detail as you can. Tell us the size, shape, color, what it is made from, when it was created, who created or designed it, and, if relevant, what it tastes, smells, sounds, or looks like to you. Tell what you know about it. Give your own reaction to it.
Analyzing the artifact:
This part of your paper requires you to discuss the meaning of your artifact. Tell what it can show about the 1960s in the United States. What does it illustrate? What questions does it raise? Is it something entirely new to the 1960s or does it have links to an earlier time? Is it a precursor to something that becomes more common in the 1970s? This portion of your paper should be no more than four or five pages and an additional page of endnotes. You must use the proper citation format for history and this will be handed out in class.
I suggest putting the song in the context of anti-establishment, folk music movement and civil rights, and the changing music culture. Keep the focus of the song and its meaning. at least a short paragraph about bob dylan himself should also be part of the paper.
