Utilising a systematic approach identify, review and critically analyse the literature relevant to an area of interest from clinical practice in your field.

Ideally this piece of work should help you answer a question regarding patient care in your chosen area of practice. Title to be constructed by the student. Part 1. The topic should address an area of practice relevant to your field, taking into consideration your own interests and the existing published evidence.
Write a succinct, robust rationale for your review topic. Your rationale should introduce the topic of your assignment, explaining the broader context, then becoming more focused on your chosen aspect. This part describes the size and shape of the problem you are addressing. Using existing literature, you should convince the reader that your review is addressing an important problem and how this review will support future practice.
Provide details of the databases used to source relevant literature (primary research).
Justify each of the decisions made in your chosen methodology e.g. search strategy, selection criteria.
Include a search strategy and also the inclusion and exclusion criteria that you will apply to the results of your search in order to select the literature for your review.
Include a flow diagram showing the search and selection process.
Include a list of the literature that you will review in Part 2 it is suggested that you review 6-10 publications. Provide a basic data extraction table presenting key aspects of the primary research reported in the literature you have selected (to be included in the word count).
Examples of data extraction tools are presented in lectures.
You should conclude with a narrative explaining the hierarchy of evidence and critically discuss the strength of the research evidence to be reviewed in relation to this hierarchy with potential implications for your literature review.

Part 2. You should provide a critical discussion of the literature you have selected. This discussion should outline the results of the research you will review. You should focus on common themes across the literature you include that are relevant to your original review question. You should also consider the challenges and benefits of implementing the findings of your review in practice. Clearly link your discussion to any potential costs, risks and benefits relevant to patients, carers, professionals and/or the public. Provide a summary of part 1 of your assignment (max 200 words)
Provide a critical discussion of the selected literature
Outline the findings of the research you will review including grading the evidence presented, in relation to the hierarchy of evidence
Expand on the data extraction presented in part 1, following processes to synthesise the information for the reader.
Identify common themes across the literature you include that are relevant to your original review question
Discuss the implications of the review findings for practice. Would you make new recommendations? How might these be implemented?
