Text (body of paper):
Introduction (1-2ish pages)
The portion of a research report that provides background information, develops the rationale for conducting the study, and logically leads to thestatement of the problem(research problem) and thepurposeof the study. Statement of the problem should present the controversy and tell why this paper needed to be written. Why is this research important? How does this research fill the gap?
Highlights of the most prominent works of others as related to your subject are often appropriate for the introduction, but a detailed review of the literature should be reserved for the data synthesis section. In a 1- to 2-paragraph review of the literature, identify and develop the magnitude and significance of the controversy, pointing out differences among others results, conclusions, and/or opinions. The introduction is not the place for great detail; state the facts inbriefspecific statements and reference them. Also, an overview of the entire paper is part of the abstract, not the introduction.
Statement of the Problem (Research Problem/Question)
The Statement of the Problem is a specific, definitive statement that specifies the question or issue to be investigated in a research study; normally indicates the variables of interest to the researcher.
Purpose
A clear concise statement of the purpose of the study includes the independent and dependent variables and the populations to be studied.
Data Sources/Methods
Provide information on search engine, databases, dates, and key words used to locate information. Ideally you want to include more recent references, although there may be some key studies which are older that are important to include for your topic.
o Example of Data Sources section:
Research was searched from to present for literature related to . (list key words used). Additional literature was acquired through cross-referencing of bibliographies of article obtained through the searches.
Data Synthesis/Review of Literature
This section should reflect the most recent information in the field of study and should be referenced. The data synthesis should be organized in a topical format and arranged in subsections in which related thoughts of others are presented, summarized, and referenced. Sections should be arranged so that they progressively focus on the purpose/hypothesis posed in the introduction and leads the reader to the conclusion.Do not just write a summary of each article.
Conclusion
The conclusion is closing portion of the research report in which the author provides an answer to the research problem, and is generally stated using language similar to the hypothesis.
Recommendations
o The recommendation/s is the portion of a research report in which the researcher identifies gaps in the literature and presents suggestion(s) for professional practice and further research based on the findings of the current research study. It should be written clearly and concisely stated and related to the purpose and hypothesis.Table & Figures:
You will include relevant tables and figures at the end of your paper.
Each table and figure should be on a separate page.
All tables and figures should be numbered (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1) and referenced in-text (APA format).
In-Text Citations & Reference List:
Your references will include a minimum of 10 original or primary journal articles from scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. The major portion of your paper must be from these references, although you may use other types of references (e.g., books, websites, interviews, newspapers) in additional to journal articles.
All references that were cited in the paper should be included in the reference list and all references in the list must be cited in the paper at least one time.
Avoid plagiarism by using in-text citations (paraphrase and cite) and avoid using quotes unless by doing so will change the meaning of a statement (e.g., a definition).
Review APA website for proper citations (in-text and reference page)
o Papers not meeting APA formatting guidelines will receive a NO CREDIT
