Critically discuss the contemporary challenges for the Health and Physical Education (HPE) learning area and school wellbeing programs. Include reference to the historical context and possibilities for implementing the learning area in schools. During this Unit you are asked to consider the educational role of the Health and Physical Education learning area in the Primary School. The recent release of the Australian Curriculum: HPE, and its 2017 implementation in Victorian Schools (as the VictorianCurriculum) has called for teachers to think afresh about the learning areas purpose and implementation. Drawing on literature from the required and recommended reading list, as well as your own research and the Victorian Curriculum, you will write a paper that critically discusses the challenges of the learning areas in Health and Physical Education for childrens health and wellbeing. To acknowledge the contemporary challenges and importance, it is advised that the propositions from the HPE curriculum are referenced in your discussion. You will need to synthesise themes from coursework, academic literature, policies and reports to develop your response. Please note the purpose of this task is not to find solutions to the challenges of the HPE learning area per se, rather it is an inquiry project where you will discuss research on the relevance, challenges and opportunities.
