WRITE A CONCLUSION OFF OF THIS:The age to vote in America is getting debated as to whether or not it should be lowered. In our group we have decided that in our opinion it should stay the same. Lowering the voting age to sixteen years old seems like an irrational decision. In our defense sixteen year olds should not have the right to vote due to their lack of knowledge about politics and what is really going on within our government.
Sixteen year olds are in grade school and are approximately sophomores and juniors in high school (grades 10th-11th). Sixteen year olds in America are considered children. Most high school students have really little to no knowledge about whats happening in our country. As a sixteen year old their priorities are friends, grades, sports, styles, fashion trends, music, ect. Not politics! Its very rare to find a sixteen year old involved in politics. Sixteen year olds mainly live with a parent(s) or an older guardian because the legal age to work is SIXTEEN! Being able to vote is a huge deal! Americans have fought for generations for their right to vote, and in our opinion, lowering the age is just extremely outrageous. A sixteen year old is not in the right place of mind to make decisions for our country. Children arent politically mature enough to be trusted to make decisions that can literally change the world in which we live. In one of the articles we read about it states Im a believer in quality (of voters) over quantity. That quote to me is the best representation of the way we feel about lowering the voting age. The voter should be fully informed, understanding, and knowledgeable about the debates going on. A sixteen year old can possibly even place their vote on a suggestion from a friend or family member or even a bribe. A friend could easily say that guy is good looking or he is doing ONE thing i agree with and eaisly base their entire vote on something so unimportant. Children are easy manipulated into their every day choices. As a parent I could offer almost anything to get my child to agree with my choices. A sixteen year olds mind is not thinking about the future or what it holds. Theyre still being taken care of at home with very little rights as it is already. Its like asking a student to teach a class. Yes, they might know some about the subject, but do they really have the knowledge and credentials to make decisions that can change someones life? I dont think so. Most sixteen-year olds are too busy with their social lives to even care about politics.Going off what my partner stated l, it is true most sixteen year olds dont really have a firm grasp on politics as it because they are too busy caring about there social lives at school, then whats going on in America. Their knowledge on politics is limited to unknown about whats going on in American society, this is either due to them having barley any knowledge on politics due to them just barley learning about it to second hand knowledge from a friend or family member. Second hand knowledge on politics doesnt really help when learning about politics since the knowledge itself is coming from a personal bias, and information can be withheld or faulty in some regards. Regarding the statements made earlier from my partners regards on sixteen year olds being children, they are right. Sixteen year olds may sometimes be mature for their age, but their brains are still developing, they still think emotionally. Sixteen year olds rather act on emotion rather than logical reasoning, so why should we hand them the right to vote when they are still devolving into adults? The right to vote is a huge responsibility for any American citizen, they dont have to vote, but its a privilege big enough to spark arguments that lasted for more then a hundred years. Unfortunately, I feel that its a privilege too big for sophomores or juniors in high school. Sixteen year olds simply arent ready for something that big of a privilege and their actions and emotions prove it they arent ready to vote until there eighteen.
