Write a 1200-1500-word (about 3-5 pages) analysis of one of the Shakespeare plays or poems we have discussed in class:
— Sonnet 18
— Sonnet 73
— Richard III
— A Midsummer Night’s Dream
You should not attempt to explain every aspect of the work you choose (especially if it is one of the plays). Instead, select just one element—a scene, monologue, repeated word, character, theme, etc.—describe it in detail, discuss its relation to the work as a whole, and offer an interpretation that you can support with evidence from the text. Also, keep your summary to a minimum. Assume that your audience has read the play, and that they may need a brief reminder about the specific scenes or characters you are writing about, but no more.
For this essay, do not use outside sources other than the play or poem itself and the Oxford English Dictionary online (optional). Include a Works Cited page, in MLA format, to let me know which edition of Shakespeare’s work, and possibly the dictionary, you are using.
